enhancing the knowledge and skills of all individuals working within

Payroll is an ever changing environment, with new legislation
resulting in a constantly increasing burden of both statutory and
contractual demands. The key therefore to providing a more timely,
effective and efficient service for all clients, (be they internal or
external) is knowledge.
Only by ensuring that knowledge is
timely and relevant and that skills and expertise are current, can any
Payroll Department deliver a ‘best value for money’ service and thus
be an effective business partner within an organisation.
A Payroll Professional requires a
unique blend of expertise, encompassing many different skill sets;
they need to be numerate, articulate, customer focused and current in
their knowledge of legislation (case law, UK legislation, European
legislation etc), as well as having excellent communication skills,
good problem solving abilities an analytical mind and a ‘can do’
mentality in the face of ever changing goals and objectives.
Further, and in order to understand
the implications of the service they deliver to the organisation, the
employees and third party stakeholders, Payroll professionals need to
understand how HR and Finance interact with the payroll function, the
specific roles of each and the obligations (often joint) incumbent
upon them.
Payroll professionals require the
ability and flexibility to deal with people (both on an individual and
collective basis), change management, and project management all
whilst keeping within tight budgetary constraints and too often
inflexible time scales.
